Comfortable Root Canal Therapy
Root canal therapy, or endodontic treatment, saves severely decayed or injured teeth from extraction. Dr. Fan will recommend a root canal once the tooth’s root has been infected or exposed. While many people fear root canal therapy, it’s actually a positive thing — it means we can keep your natural smile intact. Additionally, Dr. Fan is known by patients for his gentle, comfortable approach. You are unlikely to feel a thing throughout your root canal treatment.
To perform a root canal, we will…
- Administer local anesthesia and sedation to ensure you are relaxed and comfortable
- Remove all infected tissue from the interior of the tooth
- Measure and reshape the root canals
- Apply a biocompatible material known as gutta percha
- In the same or a follow-up visit, apply a permanent filling or crown
Most root canals are carried out over two visits to The Dental Centre. We usually need to space out the treatments to allow full healing of the infection. If so, you will wear a temporary filling in the time between appointments. Take care when eating and chewing with this temporary restoration, as it will not withstand serious pressure. Try to chew on the other side of your mouth, and avoid hard, chewy, sticky foods until your tooth has been permanently restored.
If you have a severely aching or injured tooth, don’t delay treatment because you dread a root canal. Trust Dr. Fan and our team to perform comfortable endodontic therapy in our Austin office! We invite patients from the surrounding communities of Buda, Manchaca, and Bluff Creek, too. Schedule an appointment today!
