December is a big season for events in Central Texas – from exciting holiday parties to winter weddings and NYE on sixth street, you want to make sure you look your best. Anyone who works at a dental office knows that teeth whitening is one of the best ways to help you feel confident and like you’re ready to shine at any function. If you’re asking yourself “How close to an event should I whiten in South Austin,” this time of year, keep reading to find out just that.

KNOW YOUR TEETH WHITENING OPTIONS

There are two main types of teeth whitening that you can choose from, and the one you opt for will determine when you should start whitening before your event. Your dentist can talk you through the benefits of each, but keep reading to get a gist so you have a good idea of what might suit your needs and budget best.

IN-OFFICE WHITENING

People who want or need the most dazzling results in the quickest time frame often opt for in-office teeth whitening. This is something that can be completed in just one visit to your dentist’s office. Over the course of about 45 minutes, your dentist will apply a high concentration peroxide gel directly to the surface of the teeth that show when you smile. Then, the gel will be activated under a high-powered light to remove stains and whiten the overall appearance of these front teeth.

In addition to being the fastest method to whiten teeth, this procedure also lasts up to three years.

Bottom line: With in-office whitening, you can actually whiten the day of the event if you’re short on time and are able to book an appointment that day. Or, schedule a visit in the weeks or months before the event – your teeth will still be dazzling white in time for the big day!

TAKE-HOME WHITENING

People who have more time or are looking for a more affordable option may prefer take-home teeth whitening. When you work with your dentist for at-home bleaching, you will get trays customized for your unique teeth. Your dentist will instruct you to fill the trays with a special gel and wear them for approximately 20 minutes daily. After 7-10 days, usually, you will achieve your dazzling white smile.

Results from this method of whitening last for about a year

Bottom line: Get started about two months before the big day to ensure that you have plenty of time to have the trays crafted at your dentist’s office, and then to complete the treatment at home. But since the results last for up to a year, you can be sure that your smile will still be sparkling white when you need to shine!

That’s what you need to know about teeth whitening for a big event – now, happy planning, and don’t forget to enjoy yourself when the day finally comes!
