Tooth loss is a lot more common than you may think. Approximately 178 million Americans are missing at least one tooth while 40 million are missing all of their teeth. There are all sorts of different reasons for tooth loss, but one thing is for sure – you don’t need to go the rest of your life with gaps in your smile. There are options, like dentures, to help patients get their smile back and regain their confidence. TikTokers all over are breaking the stigma of tooth loss and showing what modern dentistry has to offer! Continue reading to learn how this all got started and some of the benefits of dentures.

WHAT’S THE “WITH AND WITHOUT DENTURES” TREND?

There’s a new trend that’s made its way around TikTok! It all started when a young woman named Alicia, aka Princess Glitterhead, began gaining attention on TikTok for confidently sharing what it’s like to have snap-in dentures. When this young mom began losing her teeth during pregnancy due to oral health issues, she ended up opting for dentures to restore her smile. Now, she’s sharing her story, including the emotional side of her decision to get dentures. Alicia’s videos have inspired others to not feel embarrassed when it comes to oral health issues and instead embrace their beauty!

Now, other TikTok users are using their platform to share to the world what they look like with and without their dentures to embrace their beauty either way! There are so many people out there who have dental restorations, but it is rarely discussed. Thanks to Alicia, many users are participating in this trend, helping to break the stigma of having dentures!

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF DENTURES?

Dentures can be lifechanging for people who are missing several, most of, or all of their teeth. Here are just some of the ones that patients experience when they opt for dentures as a tooth replacement option:

  • Keeps surrounding teeth in place: If you have healthy teeth remaining, dentures can keep them from moving around and becoming misaligned.
  • Improves speech: It can be difficult to speak clearly if you have gaps in your smile or you’re missing most of your teeth. Dentures can help you enunciate your words better.
  • Supports facial muscles: When you are missing teeth, the structure of the face isn’t being supported like it normally would be which can lead to the appearance of sunken cheeks. While wearing dentures, the structure of the face is filled out.
  • Affordable: Dentures are more affordable than other tooth replacement options, and most of the time, they are partially covered by dental insurance plans!
  • Makes eating easier: Eating your favorite foods can be a challenge when you have suffered from tooth loss. Dentures are durable and help you to thoroughly chew your food.

Tooth loss and having dentures is nothing to be ashamed about. As Alicia has shown, you aren’t alone. By working with your dentist in South Austin, you can develop a plan to restore your smile!
